Vijayawada: The high court on Monday expressed doubts over different persons filing PILs in the name of the Society for Protection of Civil Property and Environmental Rights (SPCPER) and sought details of the society’s registration, bylaws and proceedings of authorisation given to different persons for instituting the petitions.The HC bench headed by Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Challa Gunaranjan questioned the counsel for the petitioner, Jada Sravan Kumar, to submit details on where the society was registered and where its head office was located. The court raised the issue after four PILs filed by different persons in the name of the same society on different subjects came up for hearing. The bench also raised objections over non-compliance with rules governing the filing of PILs.Sravan Kumar submitted that SPCPER’s principal office was located at Gandhinagar in Vijayawada and that the society had been functioning since 2018 to question deficiencies in the system. He said the individuals who filed petitions are the district in-charges of the society and were duly authorised to file the petitions. He contended that persons seeking information under RTI Act are being threatened by political bigwigs.He said there was no ulterior motive behind filing PILs in the society’s name and sought time to produce its bylaws, resolutions and other relevant documents. Considering his submissions, the bench posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
