Hazaribag Municipal Corporation launches RFID waste collection system

Hazaribag: The Hazaribag Municipal Corporation would soon launch the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based garbage collection to make waste collection from 42,000 households across 36 wards in the city more efficient, transparent, and accountable.Under the initiative, the cards would be fixed at every household to monitor door-to-door garbage collection. Waste collection vehicles will scan the cards during collection rounds. Once scanned, information regarding waste collection from a household will be recorded in the civic body’s system. This will enable officials to track which households were visited by collection vehicles and if waste was collected. The new digital system will allow the municipal corporation to monitor door-to-door waste collection on a daily basis. If waste is not collected from a household or there is any irregularity in the service, the digital records will help identify the problem.Officials would be able to identify the issue and take corrective measures in time. The initiative is expected to reduce negligence in waste collection and improve the quality of civic services.Mayor Arvind Kumar Rana said, “The corporation aims to ensure regular waste collection from every household while keeping streets and lanes clean. Bringing greater transparency and accountability to the waste collection system is also a key objective of the initiative.”Urging residents to cooperate with the civic body in implementing the new system and make it a success, he said, “Public participation is essential to make Hazaribag clean and beautiful. Follow the prescribed waste collection arrangements. The corporation was moving forward with the resolve, ‘Clean Hazaribag, Healthy Hazaribag’, as cleanliness begins with every household.”
