Guru Randhawa appears to have answered the criticism surrounding his previous release ‘Fine Shyt’ with his latest track ‘Marzi’. After the earlier song became a subject of memes and negative reactions online, the Punjabi singer has returned with a music video that presents a much more confident and assertive image. Fans have responded positively to the new release, with several describing ‘Marzi’ as the comeback they wanted from the singer.
Guru Randhawa’s new song is about taking control
‘Marzi’ focuses on independence, self-belief and creating one’s own path. The track presents Punjab’s resilient spirit through the story of a self-made man who refuses to let criticism, expectations or trends dictate his choices. In the music video, Guru appears on his own and takes on a rugged, larger-than-life persona. Unlike some of his previous music videos, there are no female dancers accompanying him.The video traces his journey from modest beginnings, featuring a vintage Maruti Suzuki Gypsy and heavy-duty trucks, to a lifestyle involving blacked-out Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons, fighter jets and a high-security police convoy.According to Hindustan Times, talking about the track, Guru said, “This song is about ownership – of your choices, your circle, your story. Punjab doesn’t ask for a seat at the table. We build our own table.” He added, “This is for everyone who has forged their own path from the ground up, call their own shots and lives life entirely on their own terms.”
Fans welcome the new track
The response to ‘Marzi’ has been markedly different from the reaction to ‘Fine Shyt’. Fans took to social media to praise Guru’s latest song and celebrate what they viewed as a strong return. One fan commented, “Now this is what we want from Guru Randhawa.”Another wrote, “You showed how one should make a comeback.”A third reaction read, “The comeback speaks louder than the trolls. This one is a certified banger.”Another fan simply called it a “Banger comeback”, while some directly connected the release to the controversy surrounding his previous song. One comment read, “Fine Shyt ka revenge le liya (he took revenge on the criticism over Fine Shyt).”
‘Fine Shyt’ sparked online backlash
Guru’s earlier song ‘Fine Shyt’ received a largely negative response online, with social media users mocking the track and questioning its lyrics and presentation. Some listeners also accused the song of carrying a problematic message towards women working in corporate environments. The backlash grew further when singer Tony Kakkar appeared to take a humorous dig at the release, joking about royalties and suggesting that the song belonged to a style associated with him.Guru subsequently addressed the criticism himself, making it clear that he was not backing down in the face of the online trolling. He wrote on Instagram, “SISU MINDSET AND MOVES….!!! Also tell all of them to make some new strategy against me…….this one didnt work!! In my own lane….One vs All 🔥 Rare Like PAGANI. 2025 was 2026 is and rest of the years are mine!!! Finest Shyttttt.”With ‘Marzi’, Guru has now shifted the focus back to his music, while fans continue to debate whether the new release marks a full-fledged comeback after the ‘Fine Shyt’ controversy.
