Goyal discusses Singapore biz orgs’ India investment plans at meet

Kolkata: Investments in India featured in discussions as Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Singapore Business Federation (SBF) on Friday in Singapore. The meeting, to increase India-Singapore business engagement, was attended by SBF chairman Mark Lee, SBF (India Business Council) chairman Prasoon Mukherjee, among others.Mukherjee said his group Universal Success Enterprises (USEL) is committed to investing in India in infrastructure and logistics. Possibilities of opening SBF branches in Bengal, Delhi and Maharashtra were discussed, sources said. SBF has a branch in Bengaluru.“Emphasised the vital role of our business communities in driving stronger economic partnerships, fostering greater collaboration & unlocking new opportunities for businesses in both countries,” Goyal later wrote in a social media post. Lee stressed the need for strengthening ties with India.Singapore was India’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in FY2025-26, accounting for $19.8 billion in inflows, according to the commerce ministry. The cumulative FDI from Singapore stood at $194.7 billion between April 2000 and March 2026.
