Girl electrocuted by fan, mother dies trying to save her in Bahraich

Bahraich: A 37-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter died after they were electrocuted when a running pedestal fan toppled onto the child inside their home in Bahraich district on Thursday. The mother was fatally electrocuted while trying to rescue the child.The incident took place in Unch village under Baundi police station limits in Mahsi tehsil. According to police, Guddi (37) and her daughter Priya (9) were resting on a wooden cot while a pedestal fan was running beside them.Suddenly, the fan toppled over and fell on Priya, causing her to suffer a severe electric shock. Hearing her daughter’s screams, Guddi rushed to rescue her but also came into contact with the live fan and was electrocuted. Both lost consciousness on the spot.At the time of the incident, no other family members were present in the house. The male members of the family had gone to the fields for paddy transplantation, leaving the mother and daughter alone. As a result, they did not receive immediate assistance.In the evening, a young neighbour visited the house and found both lying unconscious. He immediately informed other villagers, who rushed to the scene and took the victims to a nearby community health centre. However, doctors declared both mother and daughter dead on arrival.On receiving information about the incident, Station Officer (SO) Pradeep Gangwar reached the spot and initiated legal formalities. Later in the night, both bodies were sent to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.The tragic incident has left the entire village in shock. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal electrocution.
