Forum demands action against private vehicles transporting schoolchildren

TIMES NEWS NETWORKMangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Schoolchildren’s Vehicle Drivers’ Association on Thursday staged a protest near the Clock Tower, urging the authorities to crack down on private vehicles illegally ferrying schoolchildren.Inaugurating the protest, the honorary president of the association, Sunil Kumar Bajal, said that incidents of white-board private vehicles transporting schoolchildren are taking place blatantly, yet the police department has turned a blind eye. Despite submitting memorandums to the concerned department multiple times, the failure to take any action so farraises grave suspicions, he alleged. President of the Dakshina Kannada District Taximen’s Association Ananda, said that transport officials have failed to take stern action against drivers who flout traffic rules and transport schoolchildren in white-board private vehicles in broad daylight.General secretary of the association, Rehman Khan Kunjathbail, warned that if strict action is not taken against private vehicle drivers transporting schoolchildren, intensive agitations will have to be carried out in the coming days.Association working president Lokesh Surathkal and president Mohan Kumar Attavar spoke. Following the protest, a delegation of the association met RTO officials, the city police commissioner, and the Dakshina Kannada DC, and submitted a memorandum.
