Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains over the last three days pushed Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers into spate in north Andhra on Friday, prompting district administrations to issue flood alerts and mobilise rescue teams.Nagavali crossed the second warning level at Old Bridge in Srikakulam, with inflows touching 80,000 cusecs, while Vamsadhara crossed the first warning level at Gotta Barrage, where inflows stood at 45,679 cusecs. Bahuda also recorded 35,656 cusecs. Officials said inflows into the major reservoirs and barrages began receding by Friday evening.Flooding disrupted road connectivity in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts as streams, canals and rivulets overflowed. Several roads and causeways were damaged or breached, cutting off dozens of villages. Schools and colleges remained closed as a precaution.In Srikakulam, 16 villages in Burja mandal and 10 in Amudalavalasa mandal faced flooding, while Nagavali waters threatened several villages in Regidi mandal. Annavaram and Gopalapuram villages in Palakonda mandal lost road connectivity. Agriculture minister K Atchannaidu visited inundated fields in Santabommali mandal and assured farmers of govt assistance.In Alluri Sitarama Raju district, a bridge at D Agraharam in GK Veedhi mandal was washed away, cutting off 20 villages. Another 32 villages were affected after streams overflowed bridges at Madigamallu and Chodirai, while 11 villages were cut off after Battunuru stream swelled.In Parvathipuram Manyam, floodwaters inundated Salur RTC complex, while a breach between Kimmi and Nadukur villages and overflowing water at Ravada causeway disrupted traffic.Preliminary assessments put crop loss at 630 hectares in Srikakulam, around 700 hectares in Vizianagaram and 11,034 acres in Parvathipuram Manyam. About 83 houses were damaged in Srikakulam, 43 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals and 133 km of roads were damaged across the affected districts.
