NEW DELHI: NSUI’s DUSU presidential candidate Vijai Shankar Meena on Saturday said he would approach the court, alleging bogus and forced voting during the Delhi University Students’ Union elections.Meena said, “We have not lost, and every Delhi University student won the election. Thank you so much for your immense support. We had lodged a complaint yesterday regarding incidents at colleges like Swami Shraddhanand College, Ramjas College and Shivaji College,” news agency PTI reported.“There was false voting, and students were forcibly made to vote, and their ID cards were confiscated. We will take this matter to court and fight for it,” he added.In the presidential race, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Yash Dabas polled 24,576 votes, defeating Meena of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), who secured 22,523 votes. Dabas won by a margin of 2,053 votes.Left candidate Anaya Raturi finished third with 5,377 votes, while ASAP’s Ashmit Kumar secured 1,388 votes. Sameer Kumar, Ejaj Mansuri and Samarth Beniwal received 1,115, 837 and 819 votes respectively.The Congress’ student outfit failed to win any of the four central panel posts. It narrowly missed out in the presidential contest, while the joint-secretary race was also closely fought.The NSUI’s performance was also affected by its rebel candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who contested as an Independent and won the vice-president’s post with 30,615 votes.ABVP’s Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Vir Chatrath polled 4,313 votes. Left candidate Akshat Shikhar secured 2,383 votes and Aranya Singh Rathore received 2,274 votes.ABVP won the other two central panel posts, with Riya Chhawdi elected secretary with 21,650 votes and Lakshay Raj Singh winning the joint-secretary post with 16,615 votes.NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary finished second in the secretary’s contest with 14,869 votes, while Left candidate Stanzin Deskyong secured 8,734 votes and ASAP’s Pankaj Kumar polled 7,639 votes.The joint-secretary contest was closer, with SCS candidate Vishesh Yadav securing 15,778 votes and NSUI’s Gopal Choudhary receiving 15,206 votes. Left candidate B Parijat polled 5,837 votes.With the results, ABVP won three of the four DUSU central panel posts, president, secretary and joint secretary, while Shokeen, who contested as an Independent after breaking with NSUI, secured the vice-president’s post.The DUSU central panel comprises the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary.(With agency inputs)
