Ranchi: The home, jail and disaster management department will provide rewards to govt servants and public for giving police information on illegal production, smuggling and peddling of narcotics in order to destroy and curb the menace.Officials said that state govt believes fiscal incentives will motivate people to start an anti-narcotics movement by providing right information to police forces.Days after a proposal was passed by the state cabinet, the department on Friday notified its resolution, enlisted the criteria for determining the reward for people, which included accuracy of information, risk borne, nature of help and significance of inputs leading police to the drug kingpins.The guidelines for govt employees are accuracy of information, hazards faced during collection, special initiative for seizures and speed of action following information.Moreover, a govt servant above the pay level of 13 is not eligible for the reward while none of them will be given more than Rs 20 lakh during their service tenure.The resolution stated that, “50% of the reward will be given after testing the seized materials while the remaining amount will be transferred after submission of chargesheet in the court in the case”.It further stated that a state level reward committee will determine the incentive up to Rs 1 lakh to govt servants and up to Rs 2 lakh to citizens. The additional director general/ inspector general leading the anti-narcotics task force willl head the committee, it added.The incentive will be approved by the central reward committee which will be chaired by the director general of Narcotics Control Bureau.The govt has also announced that in case an informer is assaulted, it will provide ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh for death, Rs 10 lakh for 100% disability, Rs 5 lakh for 40% disability, Rs 3 lakh for major injuries and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries.The police administration is also carrying out regular awareness programmes and taking legal action against illegal sale and purchase of narcotics.
