Panaji: The brother duo and co-owners of the Goa club, where a blaze in Dec last year had left 25 people dead, surrendered before a local court along with a third accused Monday.Birch by Romeo Lane co-owners Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra and Ajay Gupta surrendered before the Mapusa court two weeks after the Supreme Court on Aug 31 upheld Bombay HC order cancelling their bail. The three accused had moved the apex court after the high court cancelled their bail on Aug 18, observing that the gravity of the offence must not be undermined and that the lower court was not justified in saying the offences against them were “not heinous as murder or dacoity”.The high court had observed that the accused prima facie deliberately ignored all safety norms while operating the restaurant in Aprora and launched fireworks despite knowing that combustible material was used in the roof. It also noted that the restaurant was operating without licenses as the structure was not authorised.– Lisa Monteiro
