New Delhi: The Delhi high court has provided relief in two selection disputes ahead of the Asian Games, directing authorities to consider taekwondo player Kashish Malik’s candidature and seeking an amicable resolution in dressage rider Anush Agarwalla’s exclusion.Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma set aside the sports ministry’s decision declaring Malik ineligible, holding that an athlete cannot be denied selection merely because her qualifying weight category was later merged with another. The court said a medal winner in the merged 53-57kg category remained eligible for consideration and directed authorities to forward her name.In the equestrian case, a division bench termed the Centre’s proposal to independently review the selection process a “welcome step”, summoned IOA CEO Raghuram Iyer to court on next hearing and sought a solution. The ministry is understood to favour Agarwalla’s inclusion, finding merit in his case and considering his name for the final contingent list.
