New Delhi: Patients and visitors at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and its hospitals may see changes in parking, entry/exit points and building access under a proposed 30-year redevelopment plan.Public Works Department (PWD) will hire a consultancy to prepare the plan covering MAMC, Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. The plan proposes a circumferential road, better entrances and exits, parking facilities, improved pedestrian movement and emergency corridors between buildings.A dormitory or budget hotel for attendants and a reception block are also among the facilities the consultant will examine. The plan will also look at residential accommodation and hostels for doctors, nurses and students, along with a convention centre, central library and research facilities. A rooftop helipad will also be examined.According to the PWD, the master planning exercise will cover 3.6 lakh square metres. Around 1 lakh square metres of new buildings have been envisaged on vacant land or land freed after demolition of old structures. The campus features old, new, and under-construction buildings with limited vacant land. A structural audit will be conducted for buildings over 15 metres high and built before 2000, covering roughly 75,000 square metres. The proposal also includes a “Green Campus” with more greenery, solar power, water conservation, waste management and electric vehicles for internal movement.
