Delhi-based gang involved in 4 chain-snatching cases busted; 2 held

Lucknow: A four-member interstate gang that allegedly travelled from Delhi to Lucknow on a pre-planned chain-snatching spree struck at four locations across the city within seven hours before splitting up and fleeing in separate vehicles. Their escape was short-lived as CCTV footage and technical surveillance helped police trace them to Delhi, leading to the arrest of two accused.DCP (North) Amit Kumar Anand said police arrested Abhishek Gupta alias Jaanu (26) and Brijeshwar Agnihotri alias Vasu (19), both residents of Delhi. Two other accused, Abhishek Valmiki and Dev Gupta, are still absconding.According to police, the gang arrived in Lucknow on Aug 5 and stayed at a hotel before carrying out the first snatching at around 11.30pm on Aug 6 in Indira Nagar under the Ghazipur police station limits. The gang then allegedly struck near Sector 4 in Vikas Nagar at 5.30am, Sangam intersection in Aliganj at 6am and Gudamba at 6.40am.After the fourth incident, the accused regrouped near Kukrail and dispersed. Investigators analysed CCTV footage and technical surveillance data to trace the suspects. Police said the stolen chains were sold for Rs 1.35 lakh and part of the proceeds was used to purchase an electric vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently recovered.
