Hyderabad: It’s been almost a month since Intermediate colleges have commenced classes, but even now the affiliation process is not completed as many institutes are awaiting affiliation for the year 2026-27. Of the 1,458 private unaided junior colleges, only 240 have been sanctioned affiliation till now. This, in turn, has become a cause of concern for students and their parents as they are worried about what would happen if a college doesn’t get affiliation after getting admission.“I wanted my son to join a college near my house, but did not go ahead as it did receive affiliation. However, when I checked a few other colleges in nearby areas, I realised that even they have not got affiliation this year. Left with no option, my son joined a college after checking last year’s data, hoping they would get affiliation this year as well,” said M Praveen, a parent.Another parent, G Sreelatha, said the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) should have completed the affiliation process much before the academic year began.“Many colleges commenced classes in summer only. But, the board has not completed affiliation even now. I don’t understand why there is so much delay,” she said.Even majority of managements said they have applied and paid the required fee by May 20, but their affiliation was not yet sanctioned. “If there are any pending documents, the board should have rejected our applications. If everything is in place, they should have approved. There is no communication at all. Most of our applications are pending as board sanctioned affiliation to hardly 200 colleges till now,” said G Satish, president, Telangana Private Junior Colleges Managements Association. He said that they are worried about the delay in completion of the process as many parents are asking for an affiliation number and checking the status before admitting their children. An official from the TGBIE said that majority of applications are kept pending as the board is waiting for verification of fire NOCs to ensure managements have not submitted any forged documents.
