Bhopal: Players from across India converged at Jagannath Puri, Odisha, for the Odisha Premier League Throwball Championship held from June 19 to 22, where Madhya Pradesh’s contingent made a commanding impression. The state sent the largest number of participants and returned with top honours across categories.Bhopal’s Kamal Kushwaha, leading ‘Shrikhetra’ team, clinched the men’s title after a string of dominant performances, emerging as the tournament’s standout player. Teams featuring Madhya Pradesh athletes also secured the runner-up and third-place positions, underscoring the depth and quality of talent from the state. Organisers said the competition saw high-intensity matches and skilful displays, raising the profile of throwball in the region.On their return to Bhopal, the successful players paid a courtesy call to Vishvas Kailash Sarang, Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh, who is also the National President of the Throwball Federation of India.At his residence, the minister praised the team’s achievements and congratulated players and coaches for their dedication and sportsmanship.During the meeting, delegates proposed staging a Throwball Premier League or a national-level tournament in Bhopal to capitalise on the growing interest and to provide a platform for emerging talent.Sarang welcomed the idea and agreed in principle to support the initiative, directing officials to explore logistics and partnerships.
