Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Friday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) govt over the pending dearness allowance (DA) issue, saying chief secretary’s apology before Punjab and Haryana high court exposed govt’s alleged betrayal of employees.Dhillon said the BJP had consistently raised the issue of employees’ pending dues. He alleged that the Bhagwant Mann govt had deliberately made mistakes in its petition before Supreme Court challenging HC’s order. He claimed the move was aimed at delaying the matter until the elections.Dhillon said govt was evading its responsibility and prolonging the legal battle instead of clearing employees’ legitimate dues. “This is just the beginning. More of the govt’s failures will come to light in the coming days,” he said. He said chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann would eventually have to apologise to employees for betraying their trust.Questioning govt’s spending priorities, Dhillon said it spent crores of rupees on advertisements but had no money to clear pending DA arrears. He accused the AAP govt of failing on several fronts, including the payment of DA, tackling drugs and maintaining law and order in Punjab. Dhillon said govt had made tall promises to every section of society before coming to power but had failed to fulfil them. Employees were now approaching the courts to secure their rightful dues, he added. He said people recognised the gap between govt’s promises and its performance. Dhillon asserted that voters would hold the AAP govt accountable in the upcoming elections, questioning its unfulfilled promises, treatment of employees and failure to address Punjab’s worsening situation.
