Biswajit Pegu addresses the media

Guwahati: Assam will begin the online self-enumeration process for Census 2027 on Sunday, allowing residents to submit household and personal details through a dedicated portal before door-to-door enumeration begins later this month.Biswajit Pegu, director of census operations, Assam, said the online self-enumeration facility will be available from Aug 2 to 16 at www.se.census.gov.in. The houselisting and housing census is scheduled to be conducted from Aug 17 to Sept 15.Pegu said the initiative was aimed at making the census more participatory and citizen-centric by allowing residents to submit their household information online at their convenience. He urged people across the state to use the 15-day window and participate in the exercise. After the self-enumeration phase ends, trained enumerators will visit households to collect or verify information during the house-listing operation.Pegu said all information collected during the census would remain confidential and be protected under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948.He also said census preparatory activities, including training programmes, have been postponed in flood-hit Sivasagar and Charaideo districts until further orders due to the prevailing flood situation.Assam general administration department secretary Narsing Pawar said the state govt would provide all necessary support for the smooth conduct of the census. He also stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments and greater public awareness.
