CBI goes to RG Kar again, visits room shut for 2 years
CBI team at RG Kar Hospital

Kolkata: A fortnight before the Sealdah Court hears the R G Kar rape and murder case, a six-member team from CBI reached RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday morning. The team, which visited a number of locations at the hospital, is likely to question some key witnesses who have not been questioned so far.Last week, state health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee said the state has reopened the files related to the R G Kar Medical College rape-murder. On Monday, the six-member team arrived at the hospital around 11.30 am and headed into the Platinum Jubilee Building that houses the administrative block. After a brief interaction with officials, the team visited the Emergency Building, where the second-year PGT’s body was found in the third floor seminar room on Aug 9, 2024. Sources said the CBI team went to the 7th floor room that has been lying closed since the rape-murder.Earlier, a number of doctors’ organisations and individual doctors had pointed out the discovery of surgical knives, scissors, blood stains on the wall, and blood-stained gloves in this room, opposite the orthopaedic OT. Former principal Sandip Ghosh, now in CBI custody, was a part of the hospital’s orthopaedic department. Many had demanded a proper investigation into this room as it could have potentially been the primary crime scene. BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay had also demanded that the room needed to be inspected. Sources said the CBI team spent close to an hour in the room. “The team has spoken to us. We hope the investigation will now proceed. Earlier, the CBI couldn’t find the persons responsible for tampering with evidence. The answer lies in finding out why her body was cremated so hurriedly,” the victim’s mother said.“The rape-murder case will be heard by the end of this month. In the last hearing, we had demanded the status report of CBI in the case. We also demanded the arrest of former Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh and others in connection to the case,” said Amartya De, the parents’ lawyer.
