Brad Pitt has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars throughout his career, but his latest co-star presented a very different kind of challenge. For the upcoming survival adventure ‘Heart of the Beast’, Pitt spent nearly 95 per cent of the film working alongside a canine co-star named Uber.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pitt opened up about the unusual experience of acting opposite a dog, admitting that keeping his canine co-star focused while performing emotionally demanding scenes was “challenging”. Brad shared, “Dogs don’t necessarily know their lines – they’re just there being dogs. I really got to know our hero dog. I would have to have dog treats with me, and in the middle of the scene, say it’s an emotional scene, then the dog would start wandering off. I’d have to break and go, ‘Uber, here, buddy. Here you go,’ and then fall right back into the emotion of it all. So I got quite adept at that, which certainly is not first-year stuff.”

Directed by David Ayer, the film follows Special Forces officer James Belmont, played by Pitt, and his combat dog, Odin, as they fight to survive the harsh Alaskan wilderness. With Pitt serving as the film’s primary human presence for most of the story, his relationship with Odin is central to the narrative.Ayer reveals, “Brad really considered himself as a supporting actor to the dog, but he’s also the dog trainer. He has to manage the dog. He has to stay in character, create that presence, do his amazing craft as an actor, and the dog may be over here trying to bite a bee that’s flying past him. So his ability to manage all that was really unbelievable.”

Apart from a brief sequence featuring JK Simmons, Pitt is the only human actor on screen for much of the film, making the bond between his character and Odin particularly important to the story. According to the director, Pitt’s willingness to embrace the unconventional role allowed him actor to explore a more vulnerable side of his performance. The filmmaker shared, “Brad was willing to open himself up in a way we haven’t seen before. And he can do anything and just hold the screen. I mean, he’s a true movie star. But I think he wanted to work through his life and his own personal story and his journey and bring some of that emotion to a character.”‘Heart of the Beast’ will arrive exclusively in cinemas across India on September 25, 2026.
