Brad Pitt opened up like never before and spoke about a dark chapter in his life away from the spotlight. The actor, who has often maintained a rather private personal life, revealed he is ‘not sober’, after staying away from alcohol for seven years.

In an new interview with Esquire, Brad admitted that he’s no longer sober and can have “a few” glasses of wine. Brad revealed, “No, I got – I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon. In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me. Not in big quantities.”“You can have a glass of wine,” the interviewer said.He responded, “Yeah. Well…I can have a few. But I can’t have a lot. I have to be professional about it.”

Back in 2017 Pitt talked about getting sober in an interview with GQ. At the time, he said he couldn’t remember a day since leaving college when he wasn’t drinking, smoking pot, or using something. He also opened up about his love for wine and admitted at he had taken it too far.In 2019, Pitt told The New York Times he spent a year and a half in an all-male recovery group in Alcoholics Anonymous. In 2020, Pitt publicly thanked Bradley Cooper at the National Board of Review gala for helping him get sober.Given the timeline and Pitt saying he’d been sober for seven years, it sounds like the actor has been off the wagon for at least a couple of years.

In the same interview, the actor opened up about feeling “suicidal” while going through “family stuff” amid his split from Angelina Jolie and his estrangement from his kids.In the interview, the actor spilled his heart out, as he opened up about the dark chapter in his life. “I’ve never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just thought — I just couldn’t — just didn’t see a way out,” Pitt admitted.He further explained, “The pain was so oppressive that – I wasn’t going to act on this, but I could feel – I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief.”

Sharing his thoughts about trying to understand suicide, he shared, “And I thought, ‘Oh, okay, now I understand’ – I understand suicide, in the sense that it’s just relief. It’s just looking for relief from the pain.’ The actor further admitted that at that moment, his ‘incredible survival instincts’ kicked in and seemingly saved him. “This s**t ain’t easy. And you’re talking to a guy who won the lottery,” Brad further added.

When he was asked if his suicidal thoughts were triggered by the “kid stuff,” he clarified with the portal, “Family stuff… We could leave it at that.”Brad Pitt has been involved in a bitter divorce battle with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
