Bhagalpur DM, SSP inspect ferry services after Vikramshila Setu closure

Bhagalpur: As the three-month closure of Vikramshila Setu came into effect, Bhagalpur DM Alankrita Pandey and senior police officials on Thursday inspected key Ganga ghats and reviewed ferry and cargo services being arranged to maintain connectivity between Bhagalpur and Naugachhia.The DM, accompanied by Bhagalpur SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav, Naugachia SP Vaibhav Sharma and other officials, inspected key ghats, including BIADA, Barari and Babupur in Bhagalpur and Jahanvi Chowk in Naugachhia. The team reviewed passenger facilities, cargo operations, security measures and disaster preparedness at the river crossings.Pandey said medical camps, control rooms, Jeevika Didi kitchens, disaster response teams and police camps have been deployed at major ghats. Temporary police posts have also been opened to maintain law and order and assist commuters.She said special focus was being given to crowd management and passenger safety, adding that arrangements would be monitored continuously. A district control room has been activated and commuters can seek assistance through the disaster management helpline.Meanwhile, cargo movement from Babupur Ghat in Sabour has been suspended for three days due to the rising Ganga water level. Services will resume after a fresh assessment.The Vikramshila Setu was closed from midnight on Sept 30 for dismantling of the Bailey bridge and permanent repair work.
