Driving a cab as a side hustle might not sound particularly glamorous. But one Uber Black driver in Bengaluru has people online looking at the job a little differently after revealing that he made more than ₹46,000 in a week.Instagram user Hamtor Debbarma recently shared a video showing what he described as a “normal day” working as an Uber Black driver. The video covered everything from his morning routine to getting his car ready, picking up passengers and eventually checking his weekly earnings.And that last part got everyone’s attention.
From Morning Routine to the Bengaluru Roads
Debbarma’s day started much like anyone else’s. He brushed his teeth, took a shower, made breakfast and ironed his clothes before getting ready for work.He then showed his home setup before changing into the white shirt and black trousers associated with his Uber Black work. Once he was ready, he headed out and had his car cleaned before starting his rides around Bengaluru.The video included quick clips from some of his trips, along with a lunch stop at a restaurant with an acquaintance.Debbarma, who has a B.Com degree from Yenepoya University, also has an interest in crypto and forex trading. For him, driving appears to be one of several ways of making money rather than a conventional full-time career.
Then Came the ₹46,000 Figure
Towards the end of the video, Debbarma showed his earnings for the week.The figure on his phone read ₹46,022.30.That’s the number that really got social media talking.He ended the video on a more reflective note, telling his followers to “stay humble and grounded” and reminding them that no position is permanent.The comments, meanwhile, were a mix of admiration, disbelief and jokes.“Bro’s life is fancier than mine,” one person wrote.Another said the earnings were far better than what they made in a corporate job, while someone jokingly told him, “You are giving hope to IT folks.”“We don’t earn so much in a 9-5 corporate job,” another user commented.Someone else simply admitted, “I feel poor now. Kudos to you!”There were also people who praised Debbarma for showing that there’s nothing wrong with choosing a different career path. One commenter said they were proud of people doing this kind of work and pointed to the value of having a “dignity of labour” mindset.So, while ₹46,000 in a week may not be what every Uber Black driver earns, Debbarma’s video has certainly given people something to talk about, and perhaps made a few corporate employees rethink their idea of a side hustle.
