Belagavi: Residents of Hanuman Nagar have urged the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) commissioner to remove a barricade erected across a 40-foot-wide road near Hanuman Nagar Circle, alleging that the closure has inconvenienced people who have used the road for nearly five decades.In a representation submitted to the commissioner and signed by several residents, members of the Government Employees’ Cooperative Housing Society, Hanuman Nagar, alleged that M/s Navasa Estates LLP blocked the road with two steel panels around 6am on Oct 7. They said a board restricting public access was also installed at the spot.According to the residents, the road is located west of Hanuman Tower, constructed on CTS No. 4961, north of Hanuman Nagar Circle. They claimed that the road has been in use since 1975-76 and is part of the approved master plan of the Belagavi Urban Development Authority.The residents further claimed that the road was developed in accordance with the layout plan sanctioned by the Karnataka govt for the housing society.Maintaining that the road has served residents of the locality for nearly 50 years, the society members said its sudden closure has caused considerable inconvenience and disrupted access to the area.They urged the civic authorities to intervene, verify the status of the road and take steps to remove the barricade and restore public access.
