B D Public School defeats SMHS 31-20, lifts basketball trophy

Patna: B D Public School emerged as the champion of the ‘3rd Fr Gordon Murphy SJ Memorial Inter-School Basketball Tournament 2026 (U-19 Boys)’, defeating host team St Michael’s High School by 31-20 in a thrilling final round held on Thursday. Gaurav Kumar of the winning team was adjudged the Best Scorer of the Tournament as well as Man of the Match in the final for his outstanding performance. Atharv Shekhar of the host school was named the Best Player of the Tournament, while Sarvesh Kumar of the same school received the Best Emerging Player award.The two-day tournament featured 12 leading schools and was marked by intense competition, discipline and high sportsmanship. The event began on April 29 with the inauguration of the new basketball court by chief guest Shirsat Kapil Ashok, managing director of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDC) and secretary of the dairy, fisheries and animal resource department.In the final, B D Public School showed strong coordination and finishing to secure the title, while St Michael’s High School put up a spirited performance to finish as runners-up. Trinity Global School secured third place after defeating Army Public School in the third-place match.On the concluding day, chief guest Fr Ignatius Topno SJ, principal of St Xavier’s College of Education, along with host school principal Fr A Christu Savarirajan SJ, presented prizes and certificates.Wall painting competition: St Xavier’s High School proudly clinched the winner’s title at the ‘Fr Tom Kalari SJ Memorial Inter-School Wall Painting Competition 2026’, hosted by the school itself. The event was held with great enthusiasm on the campus and saw participation from 11 reputed schools across Patna. The competition was based on two themes — ‘Folk Art’ and ‘World Peace/Harmony’.Students displayed creative wall paintings reflecting the themes with strong artistic expression. Judging was based on interpretation of theme, composition, creativity, colour combination and clarity of expression. International School was declared first runner-up, while St Michael’s High School secured the second runner-up position.
