Indore: After several days of subdued rain, Indore received a fresh spell of overnight showers on Wednesday, while parts of western Madhya Pradesh also witnessed intense rain.The weather brought relief from the dry conditions in Indore. The city recorded 23.1 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday. The showers began on Wednesday evening and continued intermittently through the night and morning, with the city witnessing periods of light and moderate rain. The weather department has forecast more rain in the city over the next two days and issued a yellow alert for light to moderate showers.The rain also brought down temperatures. The maximum temperature recorded in Indore on Wednesday was 26.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. At 5:30 pm, the temperature was 26 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity at 79%. Westerly winds prevailed during the day.With the latest showers, Indore’s cumulative rainfall since June 1 has reached 464.8 mm. The city continues to remain below its normal rainfall for this period. The latest spell, however, brought some relief after a prolonged gap in significant rain.Rain was also recorded across Indore district during the past 24 hours. Mhow received the highest rainfall at 53.3 mm, followed by Indore with 23.1 mm. Hatod and Depalpur recorded 20.3 mm each, Gautampura received 10.2 mm and Sanwer 2.5 mm. The average rain across the district’s six rain gauge stations was around 20.3 mm.Mandsaur witnessed a much more intense spell on Tuesday night. Heavy rain lashed the city and several parts of the district for nearly one and a half to two hours. The downpour caused waterlogging at Shukla Chowk, Bharat Mata Chauraha, Gandhi Chauraha, Dhanmandi, Nayapura Road, Laxmibai Chauraha, Daya Mandir Road, Shani Vihar Colony and Sanjit Naka.Several roads turned into waterlogged stretches, affecting traffic movement. Water also entered homes and shops in some areas. Residents described it as one of the heaviest spells of the season so far.
