PUNE: Shooters who excel in more than one discipline will get priority for the Asian Games squad, over those who shoot in single events despite being top in the ranking. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) will put multi-tasking over ranking when they pick the squad for the Asiad. The Asiad will have all 12 Olympic individual events, along with 3 mixed gender team events. A country can send three entries for each event in the individual category. However, the number of participants from a country has been capped at 30, six less than the maximum possible otherwise. “Ideally, specialists would have got priority if 36 shooters were allowed, but since we are six spots short, priority will be given to shooters who can shoot in more than one event,” NRAI secretary general Pawan Singh told TOI.Since shotgun competitors cannot shoot in multiple disciplines, the selection will be a tightrope in rifle and pistol categories where many shooters shoot in air and fire-arm events.
