NEW DELHI: A video showing Union minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia in a sharp exchange with a resident over a long-pending road in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, has gone viral on social media, with the Congress sharing the clip and accusing the minister of showing “arrogance of power”.The exchange took place after local residents stopped Scindia’s convoy during his visit and raised concerns over the delayed road work. Residents carrying placards also raised the slogan “Road nahi to vote nahi” (No road, no vote), prompting a tense exchange between the minister and one of the residents.In the video, the resident urges Scindia to ensure the road is completed before the next election and warns that people would otherwise not vote.“This is a request that this road should be laid this time. Otherwise, when you come at the time of voting, we will not vote at all. This entire colony,” the resident says.Scindia objected to the manner in which the demand was made, saying, “Do not ever use this language with me. Understood? I am talking to everyone. You come and make a request. It is my responsibility to get the work done. Okay?”

The Congress later shared the video on its official X account, writing, “Look at the arrogance of power.” The party also alleged that Scindia “flew into a rage”. The party added, “The moment the public demanded a road, ‘His Majesty’ flew into a rage.” It further quoted Scindia’s response and said, “The public will soon put this arrogance in its place.”The video comes amid local complaints over the condition and construction of the road. The confrontation was followed by an announcement on the project.At a public programme later, Scindia announced that Rs 3 crore would be sanctioned for road construction from the MLA’s fund, from the quota of Guna MLA Pannalal Shakya. He also directed the district collector to ensure that work is taken up after the monsoon, according to reports.The episode has since shifted attention from the road demand to the exchange itself, with the viral footage prompting renewed discussion on how elected representatives respond to constituents’ grievances.
