Lucknow: Armed robbers allegedly broke into the house of a trader in Amrai village under the Indira Nagar police station area, brutally assaulted him, his wife and daughter with sharp-edged weapons, and fled after breaking open lockers and cupboards in the wee hours of Saturday, police said.Umesh Chandra, 55, who runs a grocery shop, his wife, Shanti Devi, and their daughter, Seema, were asleep after dinner when they heard sounds of someone breaking open lockers inside the house.As Seema got up to check, she was allegedly attacked by the intruders. Hearing her screams, Umesh rushed to her rescue, but one of the assailants repeatedly struck him on the head with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood.

Shanti Devi was also attacked when she attempted to raise an alarm. After regaining partial consciousness, she alerted the neighbours.Residents rushed to the house and informed the couple’s son, Deepak Gupta, who lives in Rahim Nagar, and the police. The injured were subsequently shifted to a hospital, where their condition is said to be serious.Police said the robbers broke open cupboards and lockers before fleeing. The family said the exact value of the cash, jewellery and other valuables stolen could not be immediately ascertained.Family members alleged that despite being informed immediately after the incident, police reached the spot about 30 minutes later. They further claimed that neither a forensic team nor a dog squad was called to inspect the crime scene and that senior police officers were not informed immediately. SI Nagendra Kumar and woman constable Divya were suspended for laxity. Police said family has till now not given list of valuables robbed away.ADCP (East) Amol Murkut said police teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the accused.
