Kolkata: Adani Group is set to begin work soon on a 2,000-bed multi-speciality hospital in New Town, with chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday saying the conglomerate has given the state govt a written commitment to fast-track the project. The international-standard facility will reserve 1,000 beds for free treatment of underprivileged patients, while the remaining 1,000 will operate commercially.“In New Town, Adani Group wants to build a 2000-bed hospital, 1000 free for poor people, 1000 commercial. Gautam Adani, chairman of the group, has sent a commitment letter saying that they want to start work fast,” the CM said at Nabanna.As per the plan, the group will develop an integrated health city in New Town’s Action Area II at an investment of over Rs 2,500 crore. Around 51 acres of land has been identified for the project.“The project aims to provide healthcare services of international standards and is likely to be developed in technical and knowledge collaboration with the renowned Mayo Clinic,” sources close to Nabanna added. The project is expected to include a state-of-the-art super-speciality hospital, advanced robotic surgery facilities and an IT-enabled smart hospital management system.The CM also announced two upcoming projects. “On Thursday, there is the inauguration of the L&T group project in Silicon Valley. On Oct 14, the Rs 6000 crore new plant of Haldia Petrochemicals is to be inaugurated,” he said.The Adani healthcare initiative is part of the family’s earlier Rs 60,000-crore pledge towards health, education and skills development.
