Marriage is often described as a union built on love, trust, and dreams collected over time, but modern-day marriages have taken a different mould altogether.Presently, a major part of the union between two, is also the conversations around financial security within relationships, which have found a popular place in public discourse. Apart from this, as a couple spends their years together, so do their children, who also witness the ups and downs of the relationships that their parents share. So, when a marriage ends, children often bear witness to the fallout, sometimes even becoming unwitting messengers of difficult news. This is exactly what Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly revealed about her separation from her husband and how her own sons became part of that painful chapter. As a mother of three, she shared a piece of advice for women looking forward to marriage, and her advice comes not just from her own heartbreak, but from a desire to protect the emotional and financial stability of families, especially children, when relationships fall apart.

Celina Jaitley advises women to get a prenup before marriage
The actor has advised women who own personal assets to consider signing a prenuptial agreement before getting married, stressing that financial independence matters even in relationships built on love. The actor made these revelations while in conversation with India Today, where she spoke candidly about safeguarding one’s wealth and property ahead of marriage. She said, “I would recommend girls, please do a prenup if you have assets of your own.” Jaitly continued explaining that relationships often begin with love and promises of togetherness, but disagreements could go haywire and eventually take a turn around property and assets once things go wrong. She described this realisation as one of her biggest sources of heartache, suggesting that even the strongest emotional bonds can later turn into disputes over material possessions.
Her children had a heart-wrenching role in this difficult chapter
Jaitly is currently going through a divorce from her husband, Austrian entrepreneur Peter Haag. She recalled receiving her divorce notice from Austria just before her 15th wedding anniversary, and revealed that the document was actually read out to her by her twin sons, Winston and Viraaj. She said, “I thought it was a letter from the municipality or that it had something to do with my residency. He dropped me down the hill where our house was, and I climbed back up. My twins were at home doing their homework. I asked them, ‘Beta, can you please read this for me? It’s very high-level German. I’m not going to spend half an hour translating it.’The factory had initially thought that the papers were about something related to her residency status, even joking with her husband about whether authorities had sent her money. The notice, she said, arrived on the pretext of an anniversary gift but instead outlined allegations against her, stating that the marriage had suffered an “irretrievable breakdown.”
She was told to get a job to be able to meet her children
Actor Celina Jaitly revealed that a judge had suggested she and her husband part ways amicably, following which she sent a proposal for a mutual settlement to her husband’s lawyers. She shared, “I said I don’t want anything. I just want my assets back and the money that I invested, and I want us to continue with joint custody. I went to my husband to speak to him after his lawyer said I wouldn’t be able to return to Mumbai after the divorce, and I was told, ‘Find a job if you want access to the children.‘ I said, ‘What work am I going to do?’ And I was told, ‘I will get you a job as a cleaner in a supermarket. We don’t look down upon jobs here like you do in India.'”
What is a Prenup?
For context, a prenuptial agreement, or prenup, is a legal contract signed before marriage that outlines how assets, property, and debts will be divided if the marriage ends. It ensures that property owned individually before marriage remains separate, offering financial security that can, in turn, protect children from added instability during a separation.
