Thiruvananthapuram: A report by director of dairy development department alleged serious corruption and financial irregularities in the administration of Thiruvananthapuram Regional Milma Union over the past four years. The findings are contained in the order dissolving the union’s governing committee. State govt dissolved the governing body recently after receiving this report.According to the report, the governing body made illegal interventions in employee transfers, promotions and postings, while its tenure was marked by corruption and favouritism.One of the most serious allegations relates to the supply of ghee to Sabarimala Sannidhanam store. The report said high-quality Milma ghee dispatched for Sabarimala was allegedly replaced en route with inferior-quality ghee sourced from Tamil Nadu. The original premium ghee was then allegedly sold separately at Rs 720 per litre, resulting in an illegal profit of Rs 85,73,245. The report alleged that members of the governing committee and head of Pathanamthitta dairy unit colluded in the irregularity.The inquiry found that ghee supplied to Sabarimala wasn’t fully subjected to mandatory quality testing by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It alleged that milk procured from Tamil Nadu during a reported shortage was purchased through an unauthorised tender process. The report said transport distances were deliberately inflated by citing night traffic ban through Bandipur forest, leading to additional financial irregularities.Citing gravity of the alleged misconduct, dairy development director ordered dissolution of the union’s governing body.Responding to the action, Milma chairperson K S Mani said the dissolution was politically motivated. The dissolved body was a Left-backed committee chaired by Mani Viswanath. He pointed out that in 2021, the then LDF govt had similarly dissolved a Congress-led governing committee under comparable circumstances.An administrator will manage Thiruvananthapuram Regional Milma Union until fresh elections are held.
