Tiger Shroff firing case: Haryana student arrested from Indore locality

Indore: A 22-year-old engineering student of Haryana’s Sonipat was arrested by Mumbai Crime Branch in Indore’s Pardeshipura area on Saturday in connection with a case of firing on actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai.“The student, Pranjal Thakaran, was arrested from Ankur rehab centre in Pardeshipura area in a joint operation by Mumbai and Indore police. He had arrived in Indore five days ago to meet his brother, who is undergoing treatment in the city,” Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said.Investigators suspect his involvement in the conspiracy and supply of weapons used in the firing. Mumbai Crime Branch is likely to take him to Mumbai on transit remand and question him about the alleged weapon supply and conspiracy angles in the case.“Preliminary questioning revealed that Pranjal was in contact with the person who allegedly carried out the firing. However, his exact role in the conspiracy will be established only after further questioning and investigation. Pranjal is the 11th suspect to be detained in connection with the case,” he said.Dandotiya said that Mumbai Crime Branch contacted its Indore counterparts on Thursday night after receiving inputs about Pranjal’s presence here. Following technical surveillance and other inputs, his location was traced and a joint team arrested him.The arrest comes amid a wider probe into the Oct 18 firing outside a location in Juhu, where five to six rounds were fired at Shroff’s car. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver and a vlogger sustained injuries. After the firing, an alleged Lawrence gangmember, Anil Pandit, had claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. Investigators are probing whether Pranjal provided any assistance to the other accused. In recent months, realtors and other businessmen in Indore and nearby Mhow have received WhatsApp calls, voice messages and threats allegedly issued in the name of overseas gang operative Harry Boxer, an alleged Lawrence gang member. Demands have ranged from Rs 5 crore to Rs 15 crore, with callers threatening to kill the targets or their family members if they failed to pay. The extortion pattern extended to Khargone, Bhopal and Ashoknagar districts, prompting Madhya Pradesh Police to constitute an SIT to investigate six such cases.Investigators have also uncovered an alleged local network involved in identifying potential targets, conducting reconnaissance and passing their personal and financial details to handlers in the gang.
