With less than 100 days remaining until SA20 Season 5 begins on January 17, 2027, new signings Jason Rowles and Temba Bavuma are looking forward to making their mark in the tournament after being picked up at the October 7 auction.Rowles, the biggest buy at the auction, will represent his hometown franchise Joburg Super Kings, while South Africa captain Bavuma joins Pretoria Capitals after missing the previous two seasons. The 18-year-old Rowles, who was signed for $174,248, said joining JSK and playing at the Wanderers was a dream come true.“The SA20 is an incredible tournament, and to be selected by my home team, Joburg Super Kings, is a dream come true,” he said. “I can’t wait to get the season started and learn from all the coaches and players.”Oliver Whitehead, an U-23 all-rounder signed by MI Cape Town, is also looking forward to playing at Newlands. Having studied close to the ground, he said the prospect of appearing in front of home crowds made the move particularly special.“I am super stoked to be picked up by MI Cape Town for the 2027 season,” Whitehead said. “I can’t wait for the experience and to play in front of the full Newlands crowds.”Bavuma, 36, returns to the competition with Pretoria Capitals, who have finished runners-up twice in four seasons. The Proteas Test and ODI captain will bring leadership experience after guiding South Africa to the World Test Championship title.“It’s cool to be back in the mix with the guys,” Bavuma said. “Not too far from home, Pretoria, led by Keshav [Maharaj] over there. So yeah, I look forward to being a part of that team. Yeah, hopefully we’ll be able to go all the way next year.”England all-rounder Craig Overton will return to Sunrisers Eastern Cape, having previously experienced the atmosphere at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.“I am buzzing to be back at St George’s Park for the fifth season of the SA20,” Overton said.“It was a great experience last time I was there, playing in front of the Orange Army and the St George’s band. I can’t wait to get back out there. We’ve got a great squad to be able to compete and try to win that fourth trophy out of five. I just can’t wait to get out there and to see all the boys again.”Season 5 will begin with a repeat of the previous edition’s final, as defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape host Pretoria Capitals at St George’s Park on January 17.
