Nagpur: Vidarbha is witnessing an unusually hot October with temperatures soaring well above normal amid dry weather and virtually no rainfall. Amravati clocked a scorching 39.6°C on Tuesday, around 7°C above normal and the highest maximum temperature among Vidarbha stations. The temperature also surpassed the earlier October record of 39.5°C.The hot spell continued across the region on Wednesday, with Wardha clocking 37.6°C, Akola 37.9°C, Yavatmal 38.2°C, Chandrapur 37.2°C and Nagpur 36.4°C. Nagpur’s maximum was 2.8°C above normal, while Wardha was 4.7°C above normal and Yavatmal 6.2°C above normal. The unusual heat comes against the backdrop of a deficient monsoon in Vidarbha. The region has recorded a 27% rainfall deficit this season, with monsoon withdrawal already underway.Nagpur has also been experiencing pronounced daytime heat. With clear to mostly clear skies and no rainfall, citizens are facing intense heat during the afternoon, while nights too have remained relatively warm. The minimum temperature in Nagpur was 22°C on Wednesday.Meteorological conditions, including an anti-cyclonic circulation, have contributed to the dry weather and suppressed cloud formation over the region, allowing temperatures to rise sharply during the day.IMD’s Wednesday observations showed no rainfall at any of the major Vidarbha stations. The region has been witnessing a combination of deficient rainfall, dry air, clear skies and temperatures several degrees above normal — conditions that have intensified October heat. Though IMD issued a thunderstorm/lightning warning for Vidarbha for Wednesday, the precipitation was minimal.
