Tawde tells cadre to plug organisational gaps

Lucknow: With an eye on the Assembly elections, BJP on Thursday kick-started its poll preparations, with national general secretary and UP incharge Vinod Tawde directing party members to devise region-specific strategies and plug organisational gaps believed to have contributed to the party’s reduced tally in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At a high-level meeting at the state BJP headquarters in Lucknow, Tawde and four co-incharges — Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Kumar Verma and Anant Ojha — reviewed the situation across regions and discussed preparations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha and MLC elections. Except for Patel, it was the first visit to Uttar Pradesh by the three newly appointed co-incharges.They separately met chief minister Yogi Adityanath and deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak before holding deliberations with regional presidents and regional incharges.Though BJP did not officially disclose the agenda, sources said Tawde sought detailed feedback on the political and organisational situation in each region and asked senior members to formulate strategies keeping local realities in mind. Stressing the need for course correction ahead of the Assembly polls, he reportedly told organisational members to address weaknesses that surfaced during the 2024 LS elections.Sources said Tawde asked the party machinery to shift into election mode immediately after the Pitra Paksha period. He emphasised strengthening the organisation at the mandal, shakti kendra and booth levels to energise workers, reconnect with supporters and expand BJP’s grassroots reach ahead of the crucial electoral battle. The meeting also had detailed discussions on elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats. Party leaders assessed BJP’s numerical strength in the Assembly and discussed prospective candidates. The review comes after the state unit forwarded a panel of names to the central leadership, which will take the final call on nominations.Preparations for elections to 11 teachers’ and graduates’ MLC constituencies were also reviewed. BJP has already announced its candidates for those contests.Later in the evening, Tawde and the co-incharges left for Varanasi, where they are scheduled to participate in programmes marking Gandhi Jayanti. Tawde is expected to hold a review meeting with Kashi region functionaries during the visit.
