6 stab wounds on techie murdered by colleague; worked together in Optum for a year

Gurgaon: A day after a 25-year-old software engineer was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a paying guest accommodation in Sector 55, a postmortem conducted on Monday found she suffered six injuries, to the neck — one of which penetrated deeply — and upper left side of her chest, face and back.Insharah Ayyubi, originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, was allegedly killed by her colleague Shresth Malik (25), who was from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh. Shresth died by suicide on the railway tracks near Gurgaon station. His body was found by Govt Railway Police on Saturday. Insharah was found dead at Shresth’s rented accommodation on Sunday morning. Both worked at Optum, an IT company in Sector 59, where they were colleagues since July 2025. Insharah was a full-stack software developer, while Shresth was an AI engineer. The young techies were just starting out in their professional lives. The suspected murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from Shresth’s room and sent for forensic examination.GRP used documents found on Shresth to identify him and informed his family in Chhattisgarh. “As we were heading towards his accommodation in Sector 55, we received a call from Sector 56 police station around 2.30 pm, asking us to come to the police station immediately,” a family member said.Separately, Insharah’s parents reached the police station earlier on Sunday to file a missing person’s complaint after failing to reach her. Police broke open the locked room and found Insharah’s body. Police have not established a motive for the murder-suicide yet. Both victims’ phones, laptops and other devices have been sent for forensic examination to recover deleted messages, call records and other data that could help reconstruct the sequence of events.“We are analysing CCTV footage from the paying guest accommodation and nearby areas,” an officer said. GRP and police are conducting separate proceedings into the two deaths. A murder case has been registered at Sector 56 police station.Shresth graduated from National Institute of Technology Raipur in 2025 and interned at Samsung and Amazon before joining Optum. He visited his hometown to celebrate his birthday on June 8 and came back to the city on June 16. “He spoke to his mother regularly and last spoke to her on Wednesday. Nothing in that conversation suggested anything was wrong,” a relative said.Insharah graduated with a BTech from Jamia Millia Islamia in 2025 and joined Optum the same month as Shresth.
