Dhanbad: Police seized five coal-laden trucks carrying about 88 metric tonnes at Bhatmurna More under Katras police station on Thursday night over alleged irregularities in transportation and documentation. The trucks had allegedly left a transport railway siding at East Katras despite the authorised weighbridge being non-functional. Police acted on information that coal was being transported from the siding without the prescribed procedure. Katras police station officer in charge Praveen Kumar confirmed the seizure of the five vehicles and coal.An FIR has been registered. The complaint alleged possible connivance by local BCCL officials, transportation without authorised weighment and manipulation of the coal grade.Police said all five trucks were carrying uncovered coal when intercepted. The drivers produced Form-D transport challans specifying precise coal quantities, although they reportedly said the siding’s authorised weighbridge was out of order. They said the coal had been loaded using a payload loader after its likely weight was estimated.Police also recovered handwritten slips with the transport documents. Investigators are examining how exact weights appeared on official challans when the weighbridge was non-functional and whether mandatory procedures were bypassed. The FIR was registered under Sections 338, 336(2), 318(4), 340(2) and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police are examining the vehicles, consignments and documents to determine how the coal was dispatched. Attempts to contact BCCL officials for a response were unsuccessful. The investigation is continuing.
