Thrissur: As many as 437 weddings have been booked at Guruvayur Temple for Sunday. The devaswom authorities said the number could increase further as spot bookings are also permitted.Sept 13 will be the last Sunday of Chingam, considered an auspicious month by believers, as per the Malayalam calendar. If all 437 weddings are solemnised as scheduled, it will set a new record at the temple.A record 416 weddings were solemnised at the temple on Aug 23, although 442 weddings had been booked for the day.The devaswom and the police have made special arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the weddings and manage the large gathering expected at the temple.Devaswom chairperson A V Gopinath and administrator S Harigopal said the wedding ceremonies at six mandapams will begin at 4am. Additional priests will also be deployed.The devaswom authorities said only 24 people, including photographers, will be permitted to accompany the bride and groom to the mandapams.Special ritualistic offerings, including shayana pradakshinam and adi pradakshinam, will not be permitted on Sunday as part of measures to ensure smooth darshan for devotees, the authorities said.Guruvayur ACP M Surendran said an additional 120 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth conduct of the weddings.
