YAVATMAL: Four people were killed and five others injured after a metal container carrying gelatin sticks exploded during welding work at a workshop in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district on Saturday, police said.The blast occurred in Umarkhed area when a tractor used for blasting work had been brought to a welding workshop for repairs.The tractor had been taken to a workshop on Dhanaki Road, where welding work was in progress when the metal container carrying gelatin sticks and attached to the tractor exploded, triggering a fire, police said.An air cylinder near the rear tyre of the tractor was also found ripped open, they said.Four people suffered severe burns in the incident and later succumbed to their injuries, while five others were injured, an official from Umarkhed police station said.After hearing the blast, locals rushed to the spot and helped move the injured to Umarkhed Sub-District Hospital. The injured were later shifted to another hospital for further treatment.Police said a probe into the incident is underway.(With PTI inputs)
