2 from Odisha feared dead in TN gas leak tragedy

Bhubaneswar: Two women migrant workers from Odisha are feared dead in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing and export unit at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.“We have received information about the suspected death of two women from Odisha in the tragedy. Verification is underway. We are also in touch with our Tamil Nadu counterparts to ascertain if any Odia workers fell sick in the incident,” state labour commissioner Indramani Tripathy told TOI.Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the tragedy and ordered immediate dispatch of a team to the affected site. “As per the chief minister’s direction, three senior govt officers have been sent to Tiruvallur to coordinate and provide all required support to Odia workers. The Odisha govt is in continuous contact with the Tiruvallur district administration and the Tamil Nadu govt to oversee rescue, treatment and relief measures,” a CMO statement said.On the CM’s directive, chief secretary Anu Garg also spoke to her Tamil Nadu counterpart to ensure proper treatment and necessary assistance for the affected Odia workers.
