Varanasi: Five persons, including two constables, were arrested in two cases of loot and extortion here. Three of the arrested persons were posing as policemen. Sureri police station in-charge was suspended in the extortion case.The action was taken after DIG, Varanasi range, Vaibhav Krishna assigned a DSP to probe into the matter. Krishna said that a case registered at Jalalpur police station on Sept 17 stated that on Sept 15 one Sanket Singh allegedly took the complainant with him. Four unidentified persons accompanied Sanket and then forced him into a vehicle, assaulted him and also threatened to kill him.They extorted Rs 2.15 lakh, which was transferred through UPI and cash withdrawn from an ATM from the complainant before sparing him.Another case was lodged at Sureri police station on Sept 22. The accused in this case Rajeshwar Dubey of Varanasi allegedly called the complainant on Sept 13. Three to four men in plain clothes allegedly introduced themselves as policemen, made the victim sit in a vehicle and extorted around Rs 1.65 lakh. This money was also transferred through UPI in the account of one Vanshrajan Giri.Taking note of these cases, Krishna constituted a five-member SIT on Sept 22 under Jaunpur’, CO city, Goldy Gupta. Completing investigation within 24 hours, the SIT arrested Manish Patel of Sureri, two suspended constables Satyendra Kumar Gaur and Vishnu Singh, both earlier posted at Sureri. Wanted accused Sanket Singh and Vikas of Pahadi Patti surrendered before court.Sureri police station’s in-charge Divya Prakash Singh was suspended in this connection on Sept 18, said Krishna.
