NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing visit to France and Slovakia marks a significant diplomatic milestone, as he undertakes his 100th foreign trip since assuming office in 2014. The landmark visit underscores India’s sustained global outreach under PM Modi’s leadership and comes at a time of heightened engagement with key international partners.The Prime Minister departed for the multi-nation tour on June 13, beginning with France, where he is attending the G7 Summit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. On the sidelines of the summit, the prime minister is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with global leaders, focusing on strategic partnerships, economic cooperation, and pressing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions and climate concerns.Following the G7 engagements, PM Modi is on a three-day state visit to Slovakia from June 14 to 16 — a leg of the tour aimed at strengthening India’s ties with Central Europe. The visit is expected to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, and regional security.The week-long tour, concluding on June 18, reflects India’s growing diplomatic footprint and its efforts to position itself as a key player in global decision-making platforms.According to data available on the Prime Minister’s Office website, PM Modi has visited 78 countries across his three terms in office since May 26, 2014. His first term saw an extensive 49 foreign trips, beginning with his inaugural visit to Bhutan in June 2014, followed by Brazil for the BRICS Summit the following month.During his second term, PM Modi undertook 27 foreign trips, with his first visit covering the Maldives and Sri Lanka in June 2019. In his current third term, he has already completed 24 visits, starting with a trip to Italy in June 2024.His most recent overseas tour prior to this visit included engagements in the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy between May 15 and 20 this year, highlighting a continued focus on both traditional partners and emerging strategic relationships.
