COIMBATORE: The Podanur police in the city have arrested two college students on charges of snatching a gold chain from another student. The arrested students have been identified as S Arun Kumar, 19, of Tuticorin, and J Pranav, 18, of Idayarpalayam near Kuniyamuthur in the city. They are studying in two different colleges in the city. According to police, the complainant, G Guruprakash, 19, of Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, is studying second year EEE at a private college near Othakkalmandapam in Coimbatore district. He, along with his friend Muthu Prakash, is staying in a rented house near GD Weiler in Podanur. On Wednesday, Arun Kumar and Pranav, along with two others, entered the complainant’s house and asked about a youth named ‘Vicky’. When the complainant said he did not know anyone named Vicky, the youths left the house. On Thursday, the gang waylaid Guruprakash when he was returning to his house along with Muthu Prakash after dinner at an eatery. They showed a photo of Vicky and asked Guruprakash if he knew him. However, Guruprakash replied that he didn’t know Vicky. Later, six youths, including the arrested duo, visited Guruprakash’s house and asked him to give them water. When he gave them water, the gang snatched a one sovereign gold chain he was wearing. Guruprakash filed a complaint at the Podanur police station on Friday. Police registered a case and arrested Arun Kumar and Pranav on Friday. Both were remanded in judicial custody. Police launched efforts to nab the four others involved in the crime.
