Ranchi: City residents, who have been reeling under power cuts over the past few days, would have to face scheduled outages for the next three to four months. The Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) announced phase-wise disruptions, ranging from two to three hours, for infrastructure upgrade under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS), JBVNL officials said.“The main objective of the RDSS is loss reduction. This includes vital technical work such as converting low tension (LT) bare wires into insulated cables, transformer augmentation, and the installation of new transformers. The project involves the segregation of 11kv lines, feeder bifurcation, and the creation of a modern voltage distribution system infrastructure to ensure better load distribution where required,” Manmohan Kumar, general manager of the JBVNL (Ranchi supply area board) said.“The work will be executed in a phase-wise manner, and power supply will be restored as soon as the tasks in a particular area are completed. These cuts are being implemented primarily from a safety standpoint to avoid any potential accidents during the installation,” he added.Appealing to the residents to provide right-of-way to electricity department vehicles, the GM said, “We could complete the work much more rapidly by utilising trolley-mounted cranes, but that the narrowness of many lanes prevents the entry of large utility vehicles. Hence, the work is being carried out manually in those spots, which naturally takes more time.”
