MCD deputy commissioner remanded to 15-day custody in bribery case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded two Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials—deputy commissioner Lt Col Abhishek Kumar Mishra and administrative officer Devanshu Gautam—to 15-day judicial custody in a Rs 4 lakh bribery case.Judge Sudhanshu Kaushik said the allegations and material on record warranted custodial interrogation. A day earlier, special judge Dig Vinay Singh had sent the duo to one-day CBI custody, noting submissions including an alleged transcript of their conversations. The CBI said the arrests followed a trap based on a March 27 complaint by suspended MCD employees Mukesh Kumar Sharma and Gajender Kumar, who alleged Gautam sought Rs 4 lakh on Mishra’s behalf for a favourable inquiry outcome.Gautam was allegedly caught accepting the bribe, and calls between the two indicated Mishra’s awareness. The cash was later recovered from Mishra’s residence.
