The transition was difficult for Neena as she arrived in Bombay with no connections within the industry to help her gain foothold in this new city, leaving her feeling completely alone with no money, and uncertain of how she would ever establish a career as an actor.In an interview with ANI, Neena shared that she came to Mumbai with no work, no money and no family support. “I felt lonely. No mom, no dad, no money. I was staying at someone’s place who didn’t want me there,” she said, describing how unwelcome she felt during those initial days.Speaking further, the actor revealed that she did not have the courage to shift to Mumbai alone and travelled with her then-boyfriend. However, he eventually left, forcing her to confront the city on her own. Recalling a quote that resonated deeply, she said, “A wise person once said, ‘You don’t die of old age. You die of loneliness.’”

Neena Gupta on lack of guidance and early missteps

Neena also reflected on how the absence of a mentor made navigating the film industry even more difficult. “I wish I had someone who would have guided me on the rules of entering the film business,” she admitted.
