Dehradun: Amid controversy over alleged use of abusive language by Haryana singer Masoom Sharma at an event in DAV(PG) College, an FIR was registered at Dalanwala police station late Sunday night.The development came hours after Sharma, in a video shared on social media on Sunday, apologised and termed his conduct “impulsive”. “I was overwhelmed with the support from youngsters present there. It filled me with energy to respond in that abusive language to a gangster who was threatening me and had come to Dehradun to kill me,” he alleged.Dehradun SP (city) Pramod Kumar said the FIR was registered on a complaint by Pranchal Noni, representative of a students’ body.“Acting on the complaint, the FIR was registered under BNS sections 296 (obscene acts), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 79 (word or act intended to insult modesty of woman) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation). Sharma will be summoned for questioning and further legal action will follow,” Kumar said.The annual function at DAV (PG) College was held on Saturday. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was the chief guest but had left the venue when the incident allegedly took place. Independent MLA from Khanpur, Umesh Kumar, was present on stage and later said he had attempted to restrain the singer.On Monday, Kumar, in a video shared on social media, said, “What happened was wrong and Sharma should apologise to the people of Uttarakhand for using objectionable language at the event.”
