Ranchi: A person was arrested from the Kamtaul police station limits of Darbhanga district in Bihar on charges of illegally providing sim card to cybercriminals, who cheated an elderly person of Ramgarh district in Jharkhand of around Rs 10 lakh, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said on Wednesday.The arrested accused was identified as Suraj Kumar Choudhary. The sim card and mobile phone used in the crime besides other digital evidences have been seized from him, it added.A case was registered with the CID’s cybercrime police station in Ranchi on February 25 under the Bhartiya Naya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.According to the complaint, cybercriminals posing as enforcement agency officers called up the victim and used various threats to force him to transfer amounts, totalling Rs 10 lakh, in different banks.The accused was involved in similar acts in the past. Further investigation is under way to identify other members of the gang and arrest them, the sleuths added.Urging people to not transfer money whenever any unknown person calls up, the CID stated that no govt agency demand money on phone or video call nor digitally arrest anyone. The CID stated in case of cyber fraud the victims should immediately inform 1930 or send complaint to cybercrime.gov.in.
