Chhattisgarh's Korba Woman Dies by Suicide, Alleges Harassment in Video and Note

Raipur: A 40-year-old woman died by suicide in Korba after allegedly recording a video message and leaving a handwritten note on a wall accusing her daughter-in-law and her family of harassment, police said.Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the allegations made by her before her death.According to family members, the woman had sent a video to her sisters shortly before the incident, saying she could no longer live with the humiliation she was facing. Police also found a message written on the wall of her room in which she purportedly held her daughter-in-law and members of her parental family responsible for her death. The note also stated that her husband had no role in the matter.Investigators said the authenticity of the handwriting would be verified with the help of experts.Laxmi’s first husband had died during the Covid period, and she had two sons from that marriage. She later married another man in 2025 who also has two sons from an earlier marriage.Family members told police that disputes had been occurring frequently in the household, particularly between the woman and her daughter-in-law.A video of one such argument has also surfaced. Her relatives said she had been deeply distressed by the continuing domestic tensions.Police reached the house after being informed of the death and examined the scene. Statements of family members are being recorded and the video clips, handwritten message and other material will form part of the inquiry.Officials said no conclusion has yet been drawn on whether any individual can be held criminally responsible, and further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
