Thane: An FIR has been registered against a Marathi folk singer Nisha Bhagat and Anil Ahire for allegedly cheating a Kalyan woman of Rs 20 lakh after promising to secure a govt job for her husband at state-run Ulhasnagar Central Hospital.The case was registered at Vitthalwadi police station following a complaint filed by Sayali Chavan (27), a Kalyan resident. Police are also probing whether any staff members of Central Hospital were involved in the alleged job-for-money racket.Senior police inspector Chandrahas Godse said notices had been issued to the accused to record their statements. “No arrests have been made so far,” he said.According to Chavan, her parents are singers and performers, due to which Bhagat and Ahire were frequent visitors to their home and also performed with the family. She alleged that the accused used their close association to gain the family’s confidence and claimed that they had strong contacts in several govt departments.The duo allegedly assured Chavan that they could arrange govt jobs for her and her husband. Between March and Sept 2023, they allegedly collected Rs 20 lakh from her. However, the promised job was never provided and the accused allegedly refused to return the money despite repeated demands.Chavan claimed to possess evidence of the financial transactions and a video in which the accused are allegedly seen discussing the payment of money for a job. She alleged that Bhagat had claimed there were two vacancies at Central Hospital and that jobs could be secured by paying money.After her complaint, Vitthalwadi police registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. Chavan has also approached the state health minister, demanding an inquiry into the alleged job-for-money transactions at Central Hospital.
